The accused of torturing and killing his girlfriend's 8-year-old son was "pure evil" and killed the little boy for "being gay."

This was stated by the Los Angeles prosecution in the final arguments of the trial that is being followed against Isauro Aguirre for the terrible death of the boy Gabriel Fernández.

The minor died in May 2013 after enduring an 8-month “terror campaign” of torture and abuse at the hands of the accused, 37, and his mother, Pearl Sinthia Fernández, 34.

The case sparked outrage after it became known that social workers supervising the boy's home allegedly ignored the constant evidence of physical abuse and minimized the injuries the minor suffered, allowing him to continue living with his alleged torturers.

"Gabriel cannot enter through that door to stand on the witness stand and tell them of the horrible things the defendant did to him," prosecutor Jon Hatami said in his closing statement filed Monday. "There's evil in this room right now and it's right there."

The minor's autopsy revealed that he had a fractured skull, broken ribs and several burns. Pellets were found buried in his skin, one of which reached one of his lungs.

Defense attorney Michael Sklar alleged that his client had killed the boy without premeditation, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

The reason for his death, explained the lawyer, is that the defendant "acted enraged in a violent attack of rage" upon learning that the boy had asked his mother to end the relationship.

After hearing the final words of the prosecution and the defense, the jury began its deliberations on Tuesday and is expected to issue a verdict soon.

For her part, the child's mother awaits her turn to be tried for the same case.
