Dan and Fran Keller spent more than twenty years in prison after being found guilty in 1992 of allegedly abusing children while practicing satanic rituals. According to reports from the Austin portal My Statesman, the money they received is compensation for wrongfully convicting them.
The Kellers were accused of sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl after three children from the operating daycare told investigators that they performed satanic rituals, drank fresh blood, and took children to Mexico by plane to be raped and dismembered”. Stories were even told that the couple put children in shark ponds.
Both were sentenced to 48 years in prison, but were released in 2013 and a Texas appeals court overturned their convictions in 2015. “Last June, Travis, Texas District Attorney Margaret Moore dismissed the cases against the Kellers. and declared them "really innocent", citing that there was "no credible evidence" that they committed the crimes of which they were accused, according to information from the KXAN station.
"Now they are compensated and they no longer have to fear homelessness or health insurance," Kellers' attorney said, according to KXAN. “They are buying a home and they can live their lives in peace and quiet. I am very happy for them.”
The Kellers' wish list includes buying a home, a car, health insurance, and better hearing aids for Dan, 75, according to My Statesman.
Fran, 67, told the newspaper that she and her husband were ecstatic at the news.
"This means we don't have to worry about pinching Social Security pennies and overdue bills," he said. “It means that we will actually be free. We can start living - and no more nightmares.”
