Kim Kardashian teamed up with legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath to recreate the iconic Elizabeth Taylor in her portrayal of Cleopatra for the cover of The Violet Files.

The famous face of the socialite served as a canvas for the creation of McGrath, who opted for an innovative version of this makeup so often reproduced. "Elizabeth Taylor's makeup in Cleopatra has been recreated countless times, but for Kim I wanted to create a performance that has never been seen before, a futuristic 3D version," McGrath told the magazine.

"I wanted to portray a luxurious decadence using elements of facial jewelry to build shapes that paid homage to Egyptian culture and of course to the exotic character that Taylor embodied," added the artist.

For her part, Kim was enthusiastic about the collaboration. I would have done anything. She would have trusted Pat's vision with anything she wanted. But I was really excited that it was set in Cleopatra,”said the Keeping Up With The Kardashians (E!) Star.

In the post by beauty guru Cassandra Gray, McGrath tells how she achieved the striking end result. "Her eyeshadow is made with lapis lazuli stone powder and golden pyrite scales," she said.

Incorporating three-dimensional gold metal in makeup design explores the concept of makeup as jewelry. I wanted the images to be luxurious, evoking a modern take on the opulence associated with Cleopatra's makeup,”added McGrath.

The images, the work of photographer Ben Hassett, are the first sample of a series for The Violet Files, in which McGrath will reimagine models of old Hollywood glamor with new faces.
