A 21-year-old boy reportedly attacked four students at the University of Texas with a hunting knife on Monday afternoon, according to reports shared by Austin city authorities.
"It is an announcement that breaks my heart to give," said Greg Fenves, director of the renowned university in a press conference given after the horrendous event. "We are conducting an active investigation," he added of the incident that left one fatality.
Kendrex J. White, named after the young man who carried out the attack, reportedly stabbed the four students, all male, near a gym at the educational institution.
After the moments of horror lived, the university police managed to arrest the perpetrator, who is in custody and being questioned to establish the motives behind his actions.
Reports indicate that the fatality of the attack has yet to be identified. The three survivors are hospitalized and under specialized medical care.
"He [White] walked a little bit, stabbed someone, then walked another bit and stabbed someone else," said David Carter, head of the university's police department, about the actions of the now-murderer.
Through his Twitter account, the governor of the state of Texas Greg Abbott spoke about the tragedy and sent a message to the victims. "Praying for all those who have been affected by this heinous attack and for the University of Texas community," reads Abbott's message.
A little over a year ago, the same institution had also been the protagonist of another chilling news, when a ballet student, only 18 years old, was murdered while walking back to her home.
