A Bull Gives A Goring In The Anus

The impressive goring that the Mexican bullfighter Antonio Romero received last week has gone around the world due to the shocking images that show the animal's shaft piercing the matador's anal region before the astonished gaze of thousands of spectators.

The serious incident occurred on March 20 at the Monumental Plaza de Toros in Mexico City, in the heart of the capital. The 38-year-old bullfighter was doing his job when in one of the passes the bull rammed him and threaded him through the anal part with one of his 11-inch long horns.

Romero was immediately rushed to a local hospital with "serious" injuries, according to a video that captured the dramatic moment.

"It is a large goring … I don't know how deep it is … the injury is very severe," Dr. Rafael Vázquez Bayod, who treated the matador, is heard to be visibly concerned in the aforementioned clip. "[The wound] is the colon and rectum (…) it is very serious."

Dr. Vázquez Bayod's team had to perform a delicate surgical intervention to repair the tear in the anus and sphincter, the specialized website Toros y Faenas.

Despite the severity of the injury, Romero assured when leaving the operating room and regaining consciousness that he already thinks of returning to the arena.

"The goring hurts, but it hurts me more not to have succeeded," Romero said to the aforementioned site from his hospital bed. "I am happy because I did my best, I want to fight again."
