Days after her own mother stabbed her and also killed her younger brother while he tried to defend her, Gabrielle Torrence Francis is grateful to be alive from a hospital bed in Pensacola, FL. "Thank you all for your support, your love and prayers," said an excited Gabrielle in a video that posted on her Facebook account on Tuesday. "It has not been easy. I am so lucky to be here, it is a miracle”.
As Gabrielle recovers, her mother Janel Charlene Francis, 45, faces second-degree murder charges and attempted second-degree murder for allegedly killing her son, 18-year-old Devan Francis, and stabbing the young mother of 24, reported the Pensacola News Journal.
The bloody crime took place last week in the family's mobile home and was witnessed by Gabrielle's son and daughter, ages 4 and 5. They reportedly told the police, "Grandma just killed Mom." According to the newspaper, the girl stated that the attack happened when she was playing with her mother and her grandmother suddenly arrived with a kitchen knife and started stabbing her in the neck. The boy said that his uncle Devan - in the photo above, with Gabrielle - had tried to intervene but was stabbed by his grandmother, who also injured herself in the chest.
Alerted by the screams coming from the house, the neighbors who came to help them were shocked to see the children with blood on their clothes and feet. Both are currently under the care of their great-grandmother, who also lives in the Heritage Oaks Mobile Home Park complex where the events in North Florida occurred.
When the police arrived, they found Gabrielle outside the house, lying on the floor and bleeding profusely. Inside it was Devan already lifeless.
