Shooting At BPM Playa Del Carmen Festival Leaves 5 Dead

The so-called BPM, a popular electronic music event meant to be pure joy, was visited in mourning when a shooting broke out at the Blue Parrot club, in the popular Mexican town of Playa del Carmen. As reported by the newspaper El Universal, the bloody shooting arose around 2 a.m. today, when the celebration was at its best.

There are conflicting versions as to whether it was a subject or two who unleashed the terror. What is confirmed is that there are 5 dead and 15 wounded. Four of the deceased were men and a woman.

Videos that some of those present took with their mobile phones, have already begun to leak on social networks.

Festival organizers released a statement expressing that their prayers and thoughts are with the victims' families and that they are “moved by the pain of this senseless act of violence, and cooperating fully with local police and government officials as they they continue their investigation.”

The attorney for the state of Quintana Roo, Miguel Angel Pech Cen, ruled out that the shooting was a terrorist act, since he declared that four of the deceased were part of the event's security personnel.

At a press conference Pech Cen released more details about the deceased: two were Canadians, one Italian and the other Colombian, all of whom died trying to stop the attack of the aggressor. While the woman died victim of the stampede that was unleashed. She also reported that they are in contact with the respective embassies to repatriate her remains.
