Only hours have passed since the girl Yuliana Andrea Samboní was found dead and with signs of sexual abuse in an apartment in a wealthy sector of the town of Chapinero, near Bogotá, Colombia.
Now the authorities are trying to determine why the alleged murderer, Rafael Uribe Noguera, a 38-year-old architect with a good financial position, would have carried out the heinous crime.
On Sunday morning, the 7-year-old girl was playing with two children and was waiting for her father to go for water. A man aboard a luxurious van approached the boys of indigenous origin and forcibly took the minor away under the astonished gaze of her friends.
The passing of the truck through the humble neighborhood was captured on video. "The man asked him a question," explained a witness to the Colombian Noticias Caracol. "He pulled her with both hands, he brought her inside."
According to that person, the kidnapping was witnessed by a boy who immediately ran to notify his family of what had happened, but the van had already disappeared.
Authorities tracked down the vehicle and around 7:30 pm the same day they located the minor in Uribe's apartment. According to Caracol, the brother of the alleged murderer found "the tragedy" in the apartment and, since Uribe was in poor condition, he was taken to a psychiatric hospital to seek help.
Uribe was rejected in that hospital and had to take him to a second, the Navarra Cardiovascular Clinic, where he was admitted with signs of cocaine overdose, delirium and chest pain.
The subject remains hospitalized there pending the formal charges of kidnapping, torture and murder of the minor.
The alleged killer had left traces on Twitter that he sometimes lost control:
"At around 4 in the afternoon, he was the one screaming crazy, like crazy," Nini Johana Ruiza, a neighbor of the apartment where the events happened, told the Colombian press. Another neighbor assured that the subject maintained that apartment, but that he did not live there.
Meanwhile, the architect's family issued a statement in which he "deeply regretted the loss of the girl's life."
“We are aware that Rafael will have to bear the drastic consequences that come from his inexplicable actions. We, as a family, cannot turn our backs on him in these moments of anguish, confusion and pain”, reads the text.
