Miss England Leaves Beauty Title For Coronavirus

The winner of the Miss England title, Bhasha Mukherjee, put aside the crown as beauty queen to practice her profession as a doctor during the crisis that her country is going through with COVID-19. Thus, she is already working at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, East of England, after having an odyssey to return because she was doing humanitarian work in other nations.

"I was invited to Africa, Turkey, then India, Pakistan and other Asian countries to be an ambassador for various charity work," Mukherjee told CNN. "I felt this is what I got this [medical] degree for and what better time to be a part of this particular sector that now requires me."

Like many other Britons, she was stranded in India, as India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi canceled the flights and imposed a nationwide blockade on account of the coronavirus. Given her concern about what happened in the United Kingdom, she was forced to make a call to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take her home; Thus, she managed to arrive, last Wednesday, at her city and with all the disposition to join the nocosomio.

"There is no better time for me to be Miss England and [therefore] help England in a time of need," she added. "It was amazing how everyone was celebrating all the key workers, and I wanted to be one of them, and I knew I could help."

Now, Bhasha Mukherjee has returned to wearing her medical uniform and the title of beauty queen will have to wait at home for a moment while this world crisis caused by COVID-19 ends.
