Amid global alarm about the spread of the coronavirus, London has reported the birth of the youngest victim with this disease. The baby's mother was hospitalized days ago with pneumonia and when she gave birth to the newborn, the woman tested positive for COVID-19.

Doctors immediately tested the newborn, who also turned out to be infected with the virus. Both are being treated in different hospitals and specialists are investigating whether the girl became ill in the womb or once she was born.

The health professionals try to find out the circumstances of this peculiar case for possible similar situations with other patients.

Unlike this case, babies not infected with mothers who are should not be separated from them. Doctors assure that their parents can breastfeed them without problem. Furthermore, they emphasize that pregnant women and newborns have a low risk of complication by the virus.

Victims of the coronavirus in England continue to rise and have gone from around 200 to almost 1,000 today. Although it is not yet close to the emergency situation in Italy and Spain, the country is already taking the necessary measures so that such an extreme is not reached.
