The Miss USA beauty pageant was held this past weekend at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas where Kára McCullough was crowned the new queen to represent the United States at the next Miss Universe pageant to be held in January 2018.
McCullough, who represented the District of Columbia, surprised everyone by crowning herself the new Miss USA as her response caused much controversy among viewers.
The beautiful contestant, born in Italy and raised in Virginia, was asked if she considers affordable health care to be a right or a privilege, to which she replied, “As a government employee, I receive health care and I think that for someone to receive health care, they need to have a job.”
The new beauty queen is 25 years old, a chemist, and works on the United States Nuclear Energy Regulatory Commission.
Along with her in the final stretch were also the representatives of South Carolina, New Jersey, Illinois and Minnesota. In the event that McCullough cannot fulfill the commitments implied by her title, the first finalist - Miss New Jersey - will assume the position.
The contest was entertained by country music singer Brett Eldredge, as well as with the presentation of Pibull, who in his last performance was accompanied by singer Stephen Marley.
