Maddie, Britney Spears' little niece, has regained consciousness and appears to be recovering from the accident she suffered last Sunday while driving an ATV off-road vehicle on family property.

According to People on its online site, the hospital confirmed its improvement through a statement provided by the family.

"With her father, mother and stepfather by her side, Maddie regained consciousness at noon on Tuesday, February 7," explains the text delivered to the publication.

Jamie Lynn Spears' 8-year-old daughter was involved in an ATV accident Sunday at the family home in Kentwood, LA. Paramedics resuscitated her and took her by helicopter to a local hospital. [Now] she is aware of her surroundings and recognizes the members of her family who have been at her side in vigil since the accident,”the statement continues.

The doctors were able to withdraw artificial respiration today, she is awake and talking. Maddie continues to receive oxygen and is being closely watched. Everything seems to indicate that there is no neurological sequel”, he adds.

According to the police report, the accident occurred when the little girl, in her attempt to avoid a drainage ditch, made a violent turn at the wheel of the vehicle that caused the ATV to rush into a pond and turn around, leaving the girl trapped under the Water.

Immediately her mother, her stepfather and other family members came to her rescue, but they could not get her out of the pond because Maddie was caught by the seat belt and a protective mesh of the vehicle.

The emergency services arrived after a few minutes and were able to extract the girl, who practiced resurrection techniques.
