Although everything has happened in somewhat scandalous circumstances, Simon Cowell is happy to become a father for the first time.
The 53-year-old producer of The X Factor spoke about his situation for the first time on Tuesday, in an interview with the BBC in which he said: "I am proud to be a dad."
Cowell - who will have a child with Lauren Silverman, who was not separated from her now ex-husband Andrew Silverman when she became pregnant with the producer - added: “It was something I had not thought about before, but now I know I feel good about it."
Keeping distance from her son's mother until she gets through the drama of her divorce, Cowell called Silverman "a very special girl."
He added: "Things are changing in my life, and for the better."
In an interview in 2009, Cowell had said: “God, no, he couldn't have children. If I had them here drawing on the walls I would go crazy. You have to get up at a certain time, listen to them when all you want to do is sit in a corner and think…”.
However, last year he expressed a different opinion on the subject: “I really like children because I can talk to them and listen to them. The problem has always been the amount of time you need to spend raising them, and I have always been dedicated to my working life, and at 52, I think I already missed the opportunity.”
