The hit romantic dramedy Jane the Virgin returns tonight on the CW and fans were left with a cliffhanger last season after Michael (Brett Dier) was shot on the night of his wedding to Jane (Gina Rodriguez). The telenovela plot twists also included Xiomara (Andrea Navedo) finding out she was pregnant and the father being a mystery. With the new season finally here, Chica chatted with Andrea Navedo about what fans can expect in the coming episodes and what it was like to work with Eva Longoria, Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan.

What can fans expect from this new season?

They can expect some growth and maturity in the characters. The show is going to grow up. I can speak for my character; she is going to be making some big life decisions and become more of an adult because Xiomara has been sort of a perpetual kid in a sense [laughs].

The show is known to be fun and bubbly and season two left off with a telenovela feel- will fans be seeing more of this?

For sure! We're still going to have the telenovela aspects and we're still going to have some light and funny stuff. We will also have some dramatic things happening as well-very, very dramatic.

How does it feel to be in such a diverse cast?

It feels like home. Sometimes when I look at television or the norm, for as long as I can remember, I never really questioned it consciously until I got on Jane the Virgin. It's been groundbreaking in the sense of really bringing diversity to the forefront. There has been plenty of shows that have done that but for some reason this show sort of broke through another level. It made me more aware of what I see in the media and what I'm exposed to in the media, to the point where [if] I see an all-white cast, I kind of get bored. It's like a shoulder shrug [laughs]. I think white people of course bring wonderful things to the table but so does everyone else.

Eva Longoria directed an episode! How was it working with her?

She was a dream. Gina and I would joke around but we really meant-that she was the perfect woman-because not only was she beautiful, not only was she Latina, but she was also intelligent and dynamic. [She's] this amazing businesswoman, a voice for empowerment for her fellow females, and she could direct a TV show!

Also, Emilio and Gloria Estefan will be guest starring in an episode. How was that?

We had some really great stars like Britney Spears, Paulina Rubio and the list goes on but they were by far my favorite. They fit right in as if they had always been there. One of the best things that I loved about them was their humbleness and their presence. They were very calm, very easy-going. It's like your uncle and tia came by.

With all the drama and all the guest stars, what are you most excited about in this next season?

I'm most excited to see where Xiomara goes as a character and the choices she makes. There's a part of me that just wants her to grow up a little bit [laughs]. She keeps making mistakes and making these crazy choices. I'm looking forward to seeing her be in more control and making better decisions. You guys will see how it will play out!
