Former Democratic presidential candidate and “nasty woman” Hillary Clinton gave an empowering speech for women yesterday (March 7th) during the Girls Inc. luncheon, and today especially her words feel pretty darn important.
Since losing the election in November, Hillary Clinton has, understandably, kept a pretty low profile. In fact, spotting Hillz in public has become a bit of an internet game. Clinton has made a few spot public appearances, gifting her friend Katy Perry the UNICEF Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award, and making her feelings about the incredible Women's March known on social media. She also got ambushed by cheers during a visit to see The Color Purple on Broadway.
Well, now Hillary Clinton has made another rare public appearance at the Girls Inc. luncheon, where she spoke about the disillusionment that many women are feeling following the election
After receiving the organization's Champion of Girls award, Clinton spoke about how she hoped November's shocking result would inspire more women to run for office, noting that “[t] hey are among the reasons I am so optimistic about our future.”
She then spoke about how she dealt with the election loss.
"In the last months, I've done my share of sleeping, a little soul searching and reflecting, long walks in the woods," she said. "In those moments, I am thankful for my own village, my community of family and friends who have supported and encouraged me."
Continuing, Clinton went on to say that there was still more work to be done in the fight for equality for women.
“There are still too few women in the upper reaches of the private sector, academia, science, technology, and, not to mention, politics and government. And we've all heard the saying, haven't we? 'You can't be what you can't see,'”she said. “So each of us should take it upon ourselves to do all we can to help more girls and young women see themselves at the highest reaches of every field. And we do more to shine a light on women who have contributed to our country, but whose stories have gone untold…
So, we have to keep fighting; we have to remain stubborn; we have to look for ways to mentor and support. And we have to understand that despite setbacks and stumbles on our long march to full equality, everywhere I look, there are signs of hope.”

We will never not be inspired by women like Hillary Clinton, and we will always believe in equality and for the rights for women. #StillWithHer
