In Colombia, controversy is growing due to the discriminatory act of which an older adult was allegedly a victim in the El Poblado neighborhood of Medellín.
A video of the incident in which don José, a troubadour who makes a living on the streets of Medellín singing music of yesteryear with his guitar, was rejected at the Taquino restaurant, south of the city, has traveled around the world on social networks after being published by a woman who invited him to her table to offer her a plate of food.
In the video, it is possible to appreciate the moment in which the woman who records, one of the restaurant's clients, asks the administrator why Don José cannot sit down to eat at his table. The restaurant manager tells him that by policy of the establishment, and out of respect for customers, he is not allowed.
Before the complaint and the disclosure of the video on social networks, the support of celebrities and a march organized by other members of the community, the restaurant was forced to close its doors the day after the incident. The same day they issued a statement through their Facebook page in which they assure that the video is edited.
We apologize to the people who were offended by what happened and especially to Don José, who has been a visitor to our restaurant for 10 years and who we always allow to play his guitar in our store. Don José has been part of our environment, we have been generous with him and we have never rejected him.”

Despite the apologies, Taquino maintains that the video does not record what was done, "it is edited and transmits an incomplete message that has led to disproportionate and aggressive reactions from some citizens." However, the administrators of the restaurant did not clarify their version of what happened.

For his part, don José assures that he does not feel to be a victim of this act - which many classify as discrimination - despite the stir that the fact has caused, the Colombian never showed hatred in his eyes or blamed the owner of the restaurant for mistreating him.
"That is not with me, the problem there was the waitress, not the lady. The lady has always helped me with talk [money] and she loves me very much,”Don José is heard saying through a video that Instagram users shared with the hashtag #YosoyDonJose.
According to the newspaper El Tiempo, the establishment was fined 32 legal daily minimum wages, that is, $ 833,324 in Colombian pesos, approximately $ 300 USD.
