Authorities from Cross County in Arkansas revealed the horrifying discovery a hare hunter made in a forest when he found a suitcase with the body of newborn twins abandoned in a ditch.

"The infants were found in a purple suitcase," it was said in a press release published this Friday on the official page of the sheriff's office on Facebook. "The bodies of the two newborns appear to be from twins," it was specified.

As detailed in the statement, the discovery was made around 1:43 p.m. local time, on the side of CR 602 road, in the northeast of the state, near the town of Wynne. No documentation was found to identify the creatures and it is still unknown how long the bodies had been deposited in the ditch.

For his part, Jeffrey Nichols, one of the detectives involved in the case told the WREG.com station that there were several people considered "of interest" but avoided going into details.

"This is an active investigation and the details of the case will not be released for now," said the statement released by the police. Those with information connected to the case are encouraged to call the Cross County Sheriff's Office at 870-238-5700.
