A Former Beauty Queen Shows Her Face After An Assault

A former Italian beauty queen first showed her disfigured face on television after she was attacked with acid allegedly by her ex-partner.

Gessica Notaro appeared with great serenity and courage on Thursday in a popular live program in her country to explain the odyssey she has been going through since she ended her courtship with Jorge Edson Tavares last summer.

She said that shortly after the breakup she went to the police to report that her ex was harassing her and a restraining order was imposed on her.

After taking that step, according to the winner of the Miss Rimini 2007 contest, Tavares attacked her in front of her home, emptying a bottle of acid in her face, an accusation that the accused rejects.

"I think it was hidden behind other cars. He must have crawled on the ground and crawled behind me. As soon as I put my head outside the window [of my car] I saw him come towards me, from the back of the car and throw acid on me,”recalled Notaro, who was a finalist in the Miss Italia 2007 contest.

As a result of the brutal attack, she had to spend two months hospitalized, she almost lost her sight and now she wears a mask most of the time, in addition to the terrible pain she continues to suffer.

Her case has shocked Italian society and that is why the 28-year-old was invited to tell her story on the program The Maurizio Constanzo Show, where in an act of courage she took off the scarf that hid her face and showed it to viewers.

"This is not love," said Notaro, who before the attack worked as a dolphin trainer in a Rimini aquarium.

Likewise, he indicated that he will attend the next hearing in the case that is being pursued against his ex-boyfriend. "I don't mind meeting him," she declared, "he is nothing to me anymore. But I want to be present because I want him to see me, he must know what he did”.
