Social media users were stunned in December when a young girl committed suicide while broadcasting her last moments live on Facebook. This time, in what has become the third case in the same number of weeks, it has been Nakia Venant, who did it from the bathroom of her foster parents' home in Miami Gardens, Florida. In the video you can see how she knots the scarf with which she hung on the door of the bathtub. Something that took several attempts, which were also seen by users of that network.
The teenager with long hair and short stature, took her life on Sunday morning, but it was not until yesterday that officials from the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) confirmed her death and that the Relevant authorities are investigating what happened.
"We are absolutely horrified and devastated by the news of this girl's death," said Mike Carroll, DCF secretary.
In response to a request by the Miami Herald newspaper on Tuesday afternoon, the DCF released a report of just three sentences about Nakia's death. According to the same, the young girl tied her scarf to the "door of a bathtub" to end her life at around 3:03 am She was pronounced dead "in an area hospital".
According to the Miami daily El Nuevo Herald, she was one of Nakia's friends who, seeing the live broadcast where she was hanging in the bathroom, called the police. However, efforts to save her were hindered by several errors, such as the one the friend gave the wrong address.
When the police finally arrived at the house where Nakia lived, it was too late. Her foster parents were sleeping in her room, oblivious to what was happening.
Although both police officers and later rescuers who came to the scene tried to resuscitate her, all attempts were in vain.
