Raúl Hinojosa was able to fulfill his last wish on his deathbed, just 36 hours before his death, thanks to the staff of his hospital in Amarillo, Texas.
When the nurses asked him what they could do for him, the patient replied that his dream was to marry his partner, Yvonne Lamas, his partner for more than 9 years.
Lamas had already said “yes” to him in 2007, but since they lacked money, they dedicated themselves to saving for a dream wedding.
But a terminal illness got in the way of his plans. Hinojosa was admitted on October 22 because of the leukemia he has suffered since 2012, which had been linked to a lung and throat infection, according to the Amarillo Globe-News newspaper.
Once the patient shared their wish, the hospital started up, the cooks prepared a cake and thanks to the goodwill of a judge, the couple managed to manage the necessary documentation in record time.
The lovers celebrated the marriage in the hospital room, surrounded by friends and staff from the center, who, moved and tearfully, witnessed one of the happiest moments in Raúl's life, the exchange of alliances with his wife.
Raúl Hinojosa passed away the following day, some 36 hours after the wedding.
