A couple left their two minor children at the gate of an airport in China after authorities prevented one of the little ones from boarding the plane due to a fever, a precautionary measure taken to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

Local media reported that the parents left a girl and a boy alone at the boarding gate of Nanjing Lukou International Airport on Wednesday night and boarded flight MF8040 operated by Xiamen Airlines.

The news was released via Weibo, a Chinese social network similar to Twitter, when a blogger surprised by the event published a photo of the children sitting alone in the waiting room.

The family was trying to fly from Nanjing to Changsha when, according to witnesses, the boy had a fever of 38.5 degrees and security officials did not allow him to enter the aircraft. The parents will be angry and get on the plane without their children, insisting that they be allowed to board all of them.

After more than two hours of arrangements, the children were finally allowed to sit in the front of the cabin, even though some of the passengers were concerned about a possible contagion. The identity of the parents has not been released.

The deadly Asia-causing coronavirus has so far claimed 26 lives and infected more than 860 in different countries. Two cases have already been confirmed in the United States.

Chinese authorities have quarantined about 33 million people in at least 10 cities to prevent the spread of the virus, the Daily Mail reported on its website.
