The case of Maleah Davis, 4, a girl who went missing in Texas, has caused a shock. The little girl was reported more than a week ago as missing and authorities are seeking answers. Brittany Bowens, the girl's mother, told ABC 13 that she was terrified to think what might have happened to her: “My spirit is broken. I feel so lost. I can't focus, I can't focus. It is all very overwhelming. It doesn't seem to be real."

Bowens' ex-fiancé, Derion Vence, was arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence after the girl's disappearance, who was last seen with him. A security video shows the girl's ex-stepfather entering the apartment where they lived together with her mother and the little girl is no longer seen leaving the house.

The girl's biological father, Craig Davis, was in court where Maleah's former stepfather appeared before a judge. Davis's cousin, Tamisha Mendoza, accused the girl's mother of leaving her in charge of Vence, although according to her, the mother suspected that the ex-stepfather sexually abused the girl. "She didn't deserve this," said Mendoza.

The stepfather had initially told police that the girl was with him and his 1-year-old son with Bowens and that he went with the children to the airport to look for the mother. On the way to the airport, Vence said that three Hispanic men had attacked him and kidnapped the girl when he stopped on a highway to check a car tire.

According to authorities, trained dogs sniffed the trunk of Vence's car and reacted to the smell of decomposing human remains. The man was also caught on camera leaving his home with a black plastic bag inside a laundry basket. Police later found the same basket in the trunk of their car with a container of gasoline.

Police also reported seeing drops of blood in the hallway and parts of the bathroom in Vence's apartment after pouring a special liquid. Although the girl has not yet been reported dead, authorities have no hope of finding her alive. The case is still ongoing.
