A family of 3 members lost their lives when a subject - who apparently was driving while intoxicated - hit his mobile home in a California county while they slept.

The incident occurred this Saturday around 9:50 pm local time in the Knights Landing area, northwest of Sacramento. There Ismael Huazo-Jardinez, 33, a resident of Tuba City, was struck by the home located at 113 State Highway in Sutter County.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the subject was driving at "high speed" and that upon reaching an "s" curve, his car rolled off the road and hit the home. Inside was a 34-year-old woman, her husband of 38 and his son of 10, who lost their lives. "If you add alcohol and speed, it is a recipe for disaster," David Hernández, a CHP spokesman, told the KCRA-3 radio station.

In the house was a fourth person: the family's 11-year-old daughter who was airlifted to the UC Davis Medical Center to be admitted urgently and who is still struggling to survive after suffering serious injuries.

Neighbors told the CBS network that Huazo-Jardinez tried to flee the scene but managed to stop him and hold him until the police arrived. The man was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

Videos and images appeared on networks showing the damage from the impact that practically destroyed the mobile home:

“[It was] a model family. Two parents who worked very hard, farmers, with well-behaved children,”said Frankie Gonsalves, the victims' landlord, to the aforementioned station. “They were among my top five tenants here. Really good people, they paid the rent on time.”

John Cooney, another of the neighbors, said that after the crash he ran to help the girl. "She was trying to move but I was trying to calm her down," he said.

Huazo-Jardinez remains in the Sutter County Jail and faces three counts of vehicular manslaughter and one felony for driving while intoxicated. A bond of $ 100,000 was set for her.
