What should have been a pleasure trip to celebrate a very special anniversary ended in tragedy on July 25 for Kristy Manzanares, 39.

The mother of three daughters was killed aboard a cruise ship and the alleged perpetrator of her deaths is her husband Kenneth Manzanares, also 39.

The couple were traveling on a Princess Cruises company cruise to Alaska to celebrate their wedding anniversary with their daughters and other family members.

A relative who does not travel on the ship told People that conflict in the couple erupted during dinner when Kenneth was aggressive. So much so that Kristy allegedly asked for a divorce. "She had been acting terrible all night," the relative told the magazine. "If they were having [marriage problems] they never disclosed it to anyone."

The source reported that Kristy's father and brother broke into the couple's room when they heard her scream. It was there that they saw Kristy and Kenneth covered in blood. “We are devastated by the loss of Kristy. She was the light of our lives, said the victim's family in a statement obtained by People.

Passengers aboard the ship told ABC News that they heard a couple argue before Kristy screamed for help.

Apparently, Kenneth assured that his wife did not stop making fun of him and that is why he attacked her. "I have doubts that [she] was laughing at him," the family source told People. "Because everyone said they heard fighting and screaming, not laughter."

FBI agents revealed at a press conference that several people witnessed what happened, although they did not specify anything else. The passengers also explained that the couple's daughters were outside their parents' room, visibly upset.

US Magistrate Kevin F. McCoy ordered that the alleged murderer remain in custody until a trial is held. According to various media, Kenneth's only words at the time of his arrest were: "My life is over."
