For many people, losing their pet is catastrophic, for example, there they have a family from Buenos Aires, Argentina who decided to clone their puppy Antony who died this year.
The family decided to contact BIOCAN, the only company in Latin America that represents the Biotech Research Foundation, a laboratory based in South Korea and dedicated to cloning.
The process that lasts almost a year is called Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer (SCNT) and according to information from the Spanish newspaper El País, the cloning process must have cost between 60 thousand and 100 thousand dollars. The laboratory was created by scientist Hwang Woo-Suk, who caused tremendous controversy because he apparently cloned human embryos.
SCNT consists of removing a somatic cell - a piece of skin was removed from Antony - which is transferred to an egg, once the embryo is ready, it is inserted into a female for natural management. "The dog is the most humanized animal on the planet, to the point that it lives with us, sleeps with us, eats with us, we take it on vacation and understand the language of the country in which it is raised," Daniel Jacoby told El País, director of BIOCAN. “If love is the same, this does not change anything. This is not against anyone nor are we reviving anyone. We make a twin of the previous one and give the family the possibility of having it again.”
