Having a beautiful smile has a lot to do with your teeth and we are not talking about the way they are, but about their health and especially their tone. And there is nothing that complements the smile more than a well-groomed teeth and especially super white. The bad thing is that, even though we have good oral hygiene and visit the dentist periodically, our teeth are stained with drinks such as coffee, dark sodas and wine, among others. Even with age, teeth lose their pearly hue. Luckily, they exist in a quick and easy treatment, which helps to get rid of stains on the teeth and leaves them looking up to four times whiter.
To find out everything we need to know before undergoing this treatment, we spoke with Dr. Brian Kantor, cosmetic dentist at the Lowenberg, Lituchy & Kantor Clinic in New York, who told us about the quick and effective process, the benefits it brings, the side effect it causes, among other important things.
Doctor, why is it important to whiten your teeth?
Because it improves oral health, it helps improve self-esteem and makes you look younger. Most people know that teeth whitening makes them feel much better. But apart from the cosmetic benefits, this also improves your oral health. Whiter teeth make you smile happier and healthier.
How is the proccess?
For a drastic change, the fastest way to whiten your teeth is to do it in an office. The dentist uses 35% hydrogen peroxide and the patient sits down and receives a high intensity light. The light activates the bleach to accelerate its penetration, effectively whitening the teeth in just one hour. We use the ZOOM system, which uses light instead of laser, which makes the teeth experience less sensitivity because the lights do not heat the teeth as much and are more effective in whitening.
How long does it take
About one hour
Is there any downside to having this treatment?
The only risk is that you temporarily experience tooth sensitivity.
Is everyone a good candidate to do it?
You should not do it if you have cavities or caries, and you cannot whiten works such as crowns, veneers, among other things, because porcelain does not change color. It is good to always go see your dentist before whitening your teeth because if you have any decay or broken teeth, the bleach can get inside the tooth and this causes a lot of sensitivity.
How long does results last?
Normally the teeth clarify about 4 times more and the results last between 3 and 6 months, but it all depends on the tone you initially have and also on your lifestyle, for example, if you smoke, drink coffee, red wine or tea.
What should be known before having this procedure?
Everyone has different results. Some people get great results, while others don't get as white. If the products you buy at the pharmacy work for you, you will get better results with this process. You should always consult your dentist to find out if you are a candidate to whiten your teeth.
What is the price?
ZOOM whitening typically costs between aging with professional in-office whitening.
