Reigning women's all-around champion Gabby Douglas didn't make the cut in the 2016 Rio Olympics, losing her chance to defend her title.

Although Douglas earned the third best score of all countries competing with a 60,131, she was eliminated due to the two-per-country rule. The 20-year-old fell behind her two teammates, Simone Biles and Aly Raisman. She was actually less than half a point off from Aly's score of 60,607.

Douglas gave an impressive performance putting criticism to rest after her shaky Olympic trials, where she fell off the beam not once, but twice and placed seventh in the all-around. However, she says she wasn't trying to prove anything and just wanted to perform her best.

"I just wanted to go out there and believe in my abilities and use the talent that I was given," said the gymnast to AP Press. "I wasn't concerned with anything else."

And it isn't over just yet for the gold medalist. Douglas will get another chance at a medal in uneven bars. "I wanted to go back and defend my title," she said. "But this has been an amazing journey."
