A parrot has been arrested in Teresina, Brazil for warning its owner, a drug trafficker, that the authorities were about to raid.

The bird, known as Polly, who was the feathered guardian of an impounded thief whose name remains anonymous, started screaming out loud the moment the police appeared at his home. "Mom, police!" As reported by The New York Post.

"He must have been trained for that," he told the UK Indenpendent newspaper about the animal to a police officer involved in the operation. "As soon as the police approached, he started screaming."

The bird was captured by police officers and placed in a wire cage at a local police station. During its stay at the station, the bird remained silent, according to the publication.

"So far it hasn't made a sound," a local journalist reported, according to the newspaper. The parrot was then taken to the Teresina Zoo.

The parrot owner, known as India, had been arrested twice for drug trafficking on previous occasions. Her husband, known only as Edvan, 30, was arrested when police found cocaine in his home during the raid.
