A Texas man turned himself in to authorities after being issued an arrest warrant by Dallas County police for abandoning a dog by the side of the road in South Dallas.

According to the Facebook page of the Animal Welfare Service (SPCA), George Spears, 52, was charged with animal cruelty for leaving a 1-year-old crossbred dog stranded on a thoroughfare busy.

According to Kin 5 News reports, the dog, a dog named Claira-Belle (now KD), was abandoned by Spears on August 4, found by passers-by in the area on August 6, who took her to the area Animal Service. The SPCA took the animal from the shelter on August 22 and placed it in care until its adoption date on September 9.

Spears, for his part, admitted that he got rid of the dog to try to help his sister, who was unable to control the canine. The statement allowed the Dallas County District Attorney's Office and the Texas SPCA Animal Cruelty Investigator to file an arrest warrant.

Luckily, this story has a happy ending. The dog already has a new house. Reagan Henderson, who posted a comment on the video, claims to be the puppy's new owner.

The incident and resulting arrest is a first for the Dallas Police Department and Texas SPCA, ushering in a close partnership between the two organizations in an attempt to end animal cruelty in the area.
