Actress and presenter Adamari López joined the rhythm of merengue to the celebration of the Independence Day of the Dominican Republic, which today commemorates its 176 anniversary.

In a video shared on the Instagram account of the program Un nuevo día (Telemundo), the Puerto Rican and her colleague Héctor Sandarti stole applause from the public when in the middle of the program they danced to the sound of güiras and tamboras.

“Nothing like a good meringue. We continue to celebrate the independence of the Dominican Republic and feel closer on Friday”, was the message that accompanied the recording on the account of the morning program.

In the Dominican Republic, the festive atmosphere that usually reigns on a day like today contrasted this year with the protest actions that were carried out because of the political crisis that the Caribbean country is going through.

Music figures such as Juan Luís Guerra, Vicente García or El Alfa joined a demonstration named Trabucazo 2020 that was held in the Plaza de la Bandera de Santo Domingo.

The protesters held the government responsible for the suspension of the municipal elections on February 16 due to a "technical failure" in the voting machines.

In addition, they requested the resignation of the judges of the Central Electoral Board, the governing body of the elections.
