Dove continues her work to spread the message of the importance of self-esteem. This time she did it through the creation of #GirlCollective, a network made up of women and girls whose objective is to increase self-esteem, challenge beauty stereotypes and make them feel more self-confident. The conference to celebrate this initiative was held in Los Angeles and included a series of panels and activities led by figures such as popular series creator Grey's Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes, American singer Sza and the young transgender rights activist. Jazz Jennings, among other influencers.
More than 300 girls and women attended the event where they had the opportunity to learn about topics such as representation in the media and entertainment, stereotypes and how to break them and visual identity. Rhimes, in turn, shared with the guests how their own experience with self-esteem was. "What you think of yourself is real, period," said the writer, who related how from a young age it was her stories and characters that supported her to overcome her insecurities.
According to studies, six out of ten girls believe that to succeed in life they must look a certain way. Their physique is subjected to countless public comments even before they have time to develop a healthy relationship with their own appearance. To continue spreading the message of self-esteem, Dove has created a Facebook community for girls and women to connect and be inspired to take action.
