Seeing that a pregnancy test came back positive in mid-September, Lourdes Stephen couldn't believe it. “My period had not come. I just quit the contraceptive method. For me it was something that was not going to happen so fast. We stopped taking care of it and it happened after four days,”says the co-presenter of Salt and Pepper (Univisión).

The Dominican journalist, 39, and the Cuban-American lawyer Michael Puchades, 51, decided in the summer that they wanted to be parents. “We have been together for seven years now. We got to the point where the time came,”says Stephen, who was alone at her home in Miami when she was tested and then surprised her husband. “When I saw that it was positive, I was cold. I felt joy, I started to cry, "he recalls. “When he arrived, I received him with a box with little things inside and the proof. When he sees it, he says, 'Are you kidding me?' That man was hysterical, "he adds.

Although she has a close relationship with her stepdaughters Lauren and Emily, who are already in college, she yearned to experience motherhood with her partner. “My husband is super happy. He already has two daughters but this is a different stage in his life. When he had his daughters he was 22 years old, he was studying at law school. It is already established and mature,”he says of Puchades, who is excited about having a boy.

The journalist, who has had a craving for Mexican food in her first trimester and has a due date for the beginning of May, confesses that she was moved by the first sonogram of her baby, whose sex is still unknown. “When we saw the creature, it was the size of the tip of a pencil. I still didn't have a heart, she recalls. “For me the experience is going to be wonderful, whether it is a boy or a girl. I welcome him with open arms.”
