For the first time, in the two decades that People en Español has, we have decided to put aside the theme that always occupies the covers of the magazine: the life of celebrities. I know that you are inspired by the stars you admire, they like to see how they dress, how they put on makeup, what their glamorous life is like, if they get married or divorced, if they have a child, if someone dies. But now let's forget for a moment about the world of entertainment. Let's take a few minutes to give voice and support to the young protagonists of this edition, who represent the more than 800,000 immigrants, the DREAMers, protected by a program signed by Barack Obama in 2012 during his administration and that now President Donald Trump has decided to cancel. Their destiny is in the hands of the United States Congress. So we must raise our voices, with all our might, to be heard.

They came by the hand of their parents, without documents, when they were children. They learned to speak English, were educated, some created families, businesses, became professionals, even go to the Army to defend the only country they consider theirs. Our president boasts of shouting, mainly on Twitter, his favorite means of communication: "America for the Americans." Mr. President, DREAMers are Americans, just like your children and grandchildren. They don't need a document to be patriotic.

I have three children, whom I have taught a love for Hispanic culture, who speak my native language and know that their parents are immigrants. But in the end, this is their country, the country they have grown up in and which they feel committed to defending. I don't know what my life would be like if I had to return with them to a country they don't know and with no future.

We are all Dreamers

From this edition they will be able to see, every month, the face of a dreamer. On our website we will open a help space for these young people and their families. Hundreds of celebrities have joined our #AllWeAreDREAMers campaign. You can also do it. Let us not remain silent because I have faith that Congress will not deny the future to these young people.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was a ray of hope for this year's “stars”. On page 80 you will meet them: a lawyer, a priest, a paramedic, a military man, an actress, a chef … Those dreamers are also the face of this great nation.
