A man who, 55 years ago, suffered vision damage from looking directly into a partial solar eclipse, wants to raise awareness among the population of the risks that exist if you look at the sun without proper protection.
Today's report features the story of Lou Tomososki, who along with his friend Roger Duval were leaving Marshall High School - in the Bend, Oregon sector - when they stopped to watch the 1962 solar eclipse. Tomososki and his friend just watched. for a few seconds what was happening in the sky. However, the damage was for a lifetime, exposes Today.
How did Tomososki feel? How did you know something was wrong? The 70-year-old man told Today that after looking at the eclipse he began to see flashes in his eyes. Just like when they take a picture with a very powerful flash.
Also, he told a local station, KGW, that the eclipse is very short and not worth the risk. Tomososki suffered permanent damage to the retina of his right eye. This caused him to have a blind spot in his eye. After what happened, Tomososki does not want other people to suffer the same. In fact, he told the media that he would have liked to know in advance what risks he was taking if he looked at the sun. Therefore, ask people to orient themselves, inform themselves well and use the proper protection for their eyes during the period of the solar eclipse of next Monday, August 21.
It should be noted that although the sun is obstructed, the sun's rays can damage the eyes.
