Strong criticism has come down on Andrew Garfield after controversial statements about his sexuality during a panel discussion at the National Theater in England, after addressing his homosexual character in the London production Angels in America.
"Right now I am a gay man, only without getting to the physical," Garfield said jokingly during the aforementioned panel, as reported by the Associated Press agency. "That's it".
The matter did not stop there, because when the actor spoke of how he prepared to play Prior Walter, a man who fights a battle against AIDS, but at the same time he has an internal fight between his homosexuality and his Jewish religion, he warned that he had done so by watching the RuPaul program
“In my only free time during rehearsals, me and eight friends see Ru. This is my life of this work”, he added with a laugh. “Preparation [for his role in the play] had started earlier with a lot of friends.
He also left open the possibility of becoming a homosexual person at some point in his life, without causing conflict.
“As far as I know, I am not a gay man. Maybe I will have an awakening later in my life, which I am sure will be wonderful and I will be able to exploit that part of the garden of my life”, he concluded.
These comments unleashed a wave of criticism on social networks, since for netizens this type of statement is insensitive on the part of Andrew Garfield, in the face of a matter of discrimination and true rejection that every LGBT community suffers daily.
