A strong controversy has been generated after the video that Eugenio Derbez published requesting help on behalf of a Mexican medical friend due to the lack of equipment to care for people with coronavirus.

“I am going to read to you this letter that my friend, Dr. Faustino Ruvalcaba, from the 20 Social Security clinic in Tijuana, just published on Facebook. And it says so…”, explained Derbez in the audiovisual that he posted on his Instagram account. "'On behalf of all my colleagues from the IMSS clinic number 20, here in Tijuana, I dare to bother you to ask for AID'."

Said doctor asks for support because “without supplies we cannot work; without material we cannot help all those people who need us.” And they give a list of the equipment they require.

"'We do not have the equipment and material to protect ourselves,'" he added. “'We are investing more than a quarter of our salary in order to get equipment. However, we cannot be making constant use of that money since our families need our income. We are about to enter phase 3 of the pandemic and the corresponding authorities do not solve anything for us. Our superiors, it turns out, are ALL incapacitated. '”

After the publication of this video, authorities from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Baja California, assured that it was a false news.

“IMSS BC informs: about a message on WhatsApp requesting supplies, it is reported that the material is available in the medical units for the care of suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients. The population is invited to consult official sources,”they wrote on their official Twitter account.

Eugenio Derbez was not silent and responded with a new video.

"I just hung up the phone with the doctors back at the clinic and I want to tell everyone that what I say is true," he warned on his Twitter account. “If there are orders to say otherwise, it is no longer in me. I'm running the errand. All I want is to help the community."

For his part, the governor of the entity, Jaime Bonilla Valdez, announced to the media that there are shortages of medical supplies.
