The Powerful 2020 vote has come to an end and today we will finally meet the winner of the popular vote that will be part of People en Español's annual list of “The 25 Most Powerful Women”.
As every year, for this 2020 we had five godmothers and their goddaughters of luxury and these were:
Amara la Negra, who nominates Gloria Goyo Martínez
Joy Huerta, who nominates Eréndira Ibarra
María Elena Salinas, who nominates Astrid Silva
Natti Natasha, who nominates Michelle Matos
Selenis Leyva, who nominates her sister, Transgender author and activist Marizol Leyva
And the winner of the popular vote and brand new member of "The 25 Most Powerful Women" of 2020 is … Astrid Silva, goddaughter of María Elena Salinas Congratulations and welcome to Powerful 2020!
"I chose Astrid Silva as my goddaughter because she is an enterprising girl who, despite adversity, has not let herself fall," explains the award-winning Mexican-American journalist María Elena Salinas, about this Mexican DREAMer who became an immigration activist and today is the executive director of the non-profit organization DREAM Big Nevada, where she helps immigrant families and guides them to claim their rights.
"[Astrid] inspires other DREAMers and other members of their community to use their voices too, not to give up," adds Salinas. “It offers them a platform to do it. She shares what she has learned and serves as a bridge between those in need and those in a position to help resolve their situation."
Now get ready because this March 14 People en Español and Meredith Corporation will host the free event Powerful LIVE! to be held at the James L. Knight Center in Miami. There, tribute will be paid to the "25 Most Powerful Women" in our April issue. SAVE YOUR PLACE! JUST CLICK HERE.
