Lupita Jones, now one of the protagonists of The Lord of the Skies (Telemundo), knows first hand what it is to be the target of destructive criticism, which in her case was close to ending her career.

The former Miss Universe spoke exclusively with People en Español about the most difficult times she has faced.

How do you close this year?

It went so fast this year that I don't know why, but I feel like I'm not done doing things when I'm already planning [the] next. It was a year with a lot of work with the business that I started once I left Televisa.

What is your business?

I set up an institute for personal development. The courses are open to the public, not only for girls who want to be beauty queens. We do custom image design, we also do consultancies to companies.

What is the secret of your success?

The secret is to undertake new things, not to pigeonhole yourself in one thing, to do what you like and to maintain constant communication with people.

What is beauty for you?

For me, the physical is important, [beauty] has a lot to do with how you love yourself and how you accept yourself, what you like. As long as your physical appearance projects what you like, that's fine. It is what gives you security that gives you confidence and that you feel good in the skin you are wearing. That is what I like to feel about myself.

What has been the most difficult thing you have experienced in your career?

The most difficult have been certain criticisms [against me whose] sole purpose is to destroy the reputation or the work that I have done all my life. Criticism that has no basis. It is not bad that they tell me I do not like what you do, nor is it that everyone has to like it, but criticism that is to destroy the person that is the most difficult thing I have faced in my career. For example, the myth that Lupita Jones did not want there to be another Mexican Miss Universe and around that there are many urban legends around that myth. They are things that destroy my work.

How is your heart?

I am very happy with my partner of four years. I am very accompanied by him.
