Eva Mendes is beaming with happiness on her newest cover for the April issue of Shape. With a self-titled fashion line at New York & Company, her beauty brand Circa, being a mother to two daughters and leading lady to Hollywood's all-time man crush Ryan Gosling - there's a lot to smile about. But how does the actress keep herself in shape with so much on her plate? After getting back in shape post-pregnancy, Mendes dishes on her fitness and diet tips.

"Working out allows me to spend time on myself," she tells Shape. “Knowing that I have an hour to dedicate to my wellness is a priority for me now.”

When it comes to workout preference, the Cuban-American actress is all about running and sprinting in intervals versus cardio on the treadmill. As for her diet, the Latina shares that growing up with the arroz made it hard for her to let go of grain but she opts for salmon and eggs for protein and tries to include a salad. "I grew up eating rice and beans, so I want some kind of grain in every meal," she says.

The mother of Esmeralda, 2, and Amada, 11 months, also isn't afraid to admit that she has a sweet tooth. "Sweets are my thing," she reveals. “The kid in me thinks, I work out, so I can support my sugar habit. I know that's not a very wise thing to say, but I really do feel like I'm working it off!”

Mendes celebrates all shapes with her clothing line and knows what works best for her body type. “There are diverse body types in my family. One of my sisters is very voluptuous; the other one is skinny. It was really important to me to create a clothing line that embraces all those differences,”she says.
