The weight of the crown is always spoken of figuratively to refer to the grave responsibilities that monarchs carry. But not today, today has been literal.

On a day as marked for the British as the opening of Parliament, the weight of the crown has prompted Queen Elizabeth to replace her magnificent two-pound Imperial State Crown with something a little less impressive: a 1,337-diamond tiara and 169 pearls commissioned by George IV in the early 19th century.
