Alec Baldwin's hilarious imitations of President Donald Trump have not only become classics of contemporary pop culture, but are capable of confusing the most perceptive of journalists.

Ask those responsible for a newspaper in the Dominican Republic who recently illustrated a news story about the new US president with an image of the actor imitating him on Saturday Night Live (NBC).

The error appeared in the newspaper El Nacional on Friday, February 10. The following day, and after identifying the confusion, editors of the publication turned to Twitter to spread an apology for the error.

"El Nacional published on Friday as a Donald Trump a photograph of the actor Alec Baldwin, who imitates the president of the United States on a television program," the correction note said.

"The photograph was sent that day by Associated Press (AP) with the actor's name and reported on the program, but it was placed as if it were Trump's, a situation that went unnoticed by all who reviewed page 19," they explained.
