The new challenge of eating soap bars among teens is very dangerous and parents are on the alert. Even more, because this terrible fashion is proliferating every day on social networks.

The so-called #TidePodChallenge is based on young people chewing or eating a brightly colored bar of soap. The boys are doing this "challenge", recording and uploading it to their Instagram accounts. In some of the videos, young people are seen laughing, but this is not a laughing matter, but a very serious one.

The detergent in capsules contains bleach and chemicals that are used to wash clothes or dishes, but if a person consumes it, it can cause harmful effects on their health. Minnesota Poison Control System states that because it is a concentrated detergent, even if you do not swallow the entire pill, ingesting an amount can cause burns in and around your mouth, nausea, and breathing problems.

In 2017, the American Association of Poison Control Centers reported 10,570 cases of people who were in contact with this soap capsules, indicates CNN. Incredibly, in 2016 the number was higher and there was no such “challenge” on the internet. The figure was 11,575.

After the parents' concern, -as dangerous as this competition can be for the health of their children-, the company that owns Tide, Procter and Gamble, issued a statement that reproduces CNN in which it expressed that said capsules are concentrated detergents and they are designed to wash clothes. “They should only be used to clean clothes and should be stored in a place away from children. They should not be played with, regardless of the circumstance, even if it is a joke, the company explained.
