Democrat Julián Castro, former mayor of the city of San Antonio and secretary of housing and urban development of the Obama administration, recently revealed his intentions to become one of the candidates who aspires to the presidency of the United States by 2020.

During an event held by the Latino Vote organization at the University of Texas last weekend, the politician made his presidential aspirations clear, further adding that the country needs someone honest in the Oval Office. "There are a lot of lies in the White House today," said the prominent Latino leader.

Castro also strongly criticized the current mandate of Donald Trump, who already celebrates one year after being elected president. "This admiration is a disaster in many ways … it just isn't working," he said in an interview for the Houston Chronnicle.

He himself would have added that much of his agenda for 2018 will be focused on analyzing his chances of being one of the Democratic contenders for the presidency.

In 2016, the 43-year-old politician was running as one of the strongest names to be the vice presidential bid of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Eventually the nation's former first lady leaned on Senator Tim Kaine as his campaign formula.

On July 28, 2014, Castro became the second Latino-born political leader to be the United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, a position that fellow Democrat Henry Cisneros held during the Bill Clinton administration.
