What was supposed to be a healthy meal caused two people in Florida the scare and disgust of their lives, when they discovered that inside the salad package they were eating was a dead bat.
The terrible finding immediately triggered a joint investigation by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Florida Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). English), while the Fresh Express brand recalled all packages of its Organic Marketside Spring Mix salad on Saturday from Walmart stores in the southeastern United States.
The newspaper El Nuevo Herald published on Sunday that the bat was sent to the CDC's rabies laboratory for tests since some bats with this disease have been found in this country. People in those states who have purchased salads of this brand - in five-ounce packages and marked with consumption dates of April 14, 2017 and with production code G089B19 - are asked to throw them away immediately or return them to the Walmart where they bought them. This is not the first time that a dead animal has appeared in a salad. In 2010, a Michigan family claimed to have found a frog in a bag of frozen vegetables, prompting the product to be recalled. Last year a New Hampshire woman also said she found a live black widow spider in a bag of grapes, something that had also been reported by someone else in Pennsylvania.
