Jorge Ramos In Quarantine For The Coronavirus

The presenter and journalist Jorge Ramos is being held in a voluntary quarantine because he had contact with a person infected with the coronavirus, so he will not participate in the debate in the Democratic primary this Sunday as scheduled.

According to a Univision statement, Ramos decided not to moderate the meeting between the candidates for the nomination for president despite the fact that he has no symptoms of contracting the disease.

However, she has voluntarily decided to place herself in preventive quarantine at her home.

“The Univision News presenter was in the vicinity of someone who, in turn and without his knowledge, had contact with a person who contracted the coronavirus. Both Jorge Ramos and the person with whom he was close, are in good health and without symptoms, the chain said in the statement.

The company assured that the journalist has medical authorization to participate in his work activities, however, as a precautionary measure he decided not to do so and cede his place to his colleague Ilia Claderón in the debate that will take place in a study without an audience in New York.

Ramos joins the growing list of public figures who, like millions of people around the planet, have been directly affected by the disease, either because they have been infected or because they have been close to a person who is a carrier.

In this regard, the Canadian government reported that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife has tested positive for the disease. According to the authorities of that country, Sophie Grégoire presented some symptoms of the virus on her return from a trip to the United Kingdom.

"[Grégoire] is feeling well, he is taking all the recommended precautions and his symptoms are still mild," Canadian authorities said in a statement picked up by various media outlets.

Consequently, the Prime Minister will remain in voluntary quarantine for 14 days.

In Canada there have been more than 150 cases of coronavirus and events with more than 250 people have been canceled.
