In addition to being a Neutrogena ambassador, actress Kerry Washington has just released her first makeup palettes in collaboration with the form and we spoke to her for full details. The collection, which will be for sale exclusively at Ulta, consists of two palettes: Essential Eye Palette by Kerry Washington (far from beauty, an essential kit that will give you the tools you need to feel beautiful wherever you go.

But it is not a palette with only basic or neutral colors. You actually used it to create the look you wore to the last Vanity Fair party after the Oscars, right? Yes! It is a palette that can take you from day to night. My idea was to create a kit that does not matter where you go, if you carry it in your bag you are covered. Like those days when you are at the office working and your colleagues tell you "we have a very handsome boy for you, you have to come to the bar to meet him", [and you think] "oh I don't have anything, I can't change my makeup". If you have this kit, you can go anywhere and do anything […] without having to take endless products from one place to another.

You comment that another idea was to empower women to love and accept their natural beauty, have you always accepted yours?

I try. It is one of the reasons why I decided to work with Neutrogena. I feel that other companies and the industry work with the idea that you have to get up and transform yourself into someone you are not and for me the idea is very important that makeup is not about making me look like someone else but rather bringing out the best version of myself. You can always highlight your natural beauty, but you do not have to change it.

You have worked with the best makeup artists, stylists … what is the best advice they have given you?

Drink a lot of water [laughs] No, seriously, when you're promoting a project, traveling all the time, the lights … the most important thing has been getting enough sleep and even more so drinking enough water. I think that is why I am so obsessed with hyaluronic acid because I try to do everything I can to stay hydrated on the inside, but finding products that hydrate me on the outside has changed my life.

We are fans of your Scandal series and we need to know if you are involved in the process of choosing the looks of your character, Olivia Pope

Yes, yes, I work with the show's costume designer, Lyn Paolo, to create Olivia's style.

Do you identify with the fashion and beauty style of your character?

I really like his style, but in my daily life I like to take more risks. I like to put more color [to my looks] be it on the lips, nails, bowling pins, a shoe… I have a more eclectic style than Olivia.
