Telemundo and José Díaz-Balart created an internship fund that provides, for a single occasion, six scholarships that are awarded to young students who contribute to the diversity of the Georgetown community.
This recognition, which started this year, provides important support to those who study issues related to politics, the media, the government, the public service or journalism. Its first laureates are:
Evan Farrara: Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Disability Rights Section
Joshua Marín-Mora: Office of Senator Dean Heller (R-NV)
Joseph Murgida: Senate Campaign Bob Hugin
Thalia Navia: Citizen Diplomacy Initiative in Learning Life
Jesús Rodríguez: editorial team at The Hill
Shakera Vaughn: The City of Richmond, Mayor's Office
This summer, these students will share updates on their internships, field trips, and learning experiences through GU Politics' social media platforms. With this type of support, the young people involved can reinforce their learning and encourage other boys in their university development.
In addition to Telemundo, there are other types of supports that are designed for the benefit of Latino boys such as the Scholarship Program of the Council of Hispanic Women; The Café del Futuro Latino; César Chávez Latino Scholarship Fund, and Youth Awards.
The television station joins this list of private organizations that create financial funds to help the boys continue with their studies and have a better life in the future.
The Telemundo and José Díaz-Balart scholarship intends that this first edition become many more.
