Hidalgo County, Texas, authorities confirmed Tuesday the death of Gerardo Alberto Gómez Martínez, brother-in-law of singer Gloria Trevi.
Armando Gomez's brother, husband of the Mexican artist, passed away Sunday night at the intersection of Mile 7 and North Los Ebanos Road, near the town of Alton, county sheriff Eddie Guerra confirmed.
According to local media, authorities responded around 10:00 pm to the complaint that shots had been heard at the aforementioned intersection.
“There was a four-door Nissan car here at the scene. We believe the victim got to this location in that car, Guerra told CBS News 4 Valley Central.
There, the police found a 38-year-old Hispanic man, a resident of Mission, TX, who was dressed in blue jeans and a red jacket.
"The neighbors did not recognize either the victim or the vehicle," said the sheriff, who shared a photo of Gomez Martínez on Twitter.
Guerra also explained that the vehicle's registration number did not match the license plate it carried.
The police consider the death a homicide and requested the collaboration of the Crime Stoppers number (956) 668-8477 to gather information about the case.
Trevi's husband, 44, confirmed the news of her brother's death in a tweet he posted Wednesday night.
In a second tweet, Gomez thanked the "USA Homicide Dept." for their help. "Thanks to all of you who accompanied us in this sad moment."
The Mexican interpreter also went to her networks to refer to the tragedy and assured that these are "days full of pain and tears."
The 49-year-old Mexican star was scheduled to perform at the Latin American Music Awards ceremony to be held this October 26 in Miami. Telemundo will broadcast the delivery live at 8:00 pm Eastern time.
Becky G and Diego Boneta will act as masters of the gala ceremony, in which Rashel Díaz, Jorge Bernal, Jessica Cariillo and Quique Usales will cover the red carpet.
Trevi is nominated for Best Favorite Female Artist in the pop / rock category. It is unknown at this time if she will cancel her participation.
