The American newspaper The New York Times has just published a series of impressive photographs showing parts of the border wall that already exists between the United States and Mexico - sections that very few have seen. Among those photos stands out one that, framed in a sunrise or sunset, shows part of the wall that rises above the waves of the sea in Tijuana.
The photo is part of a story titled Before the Wall: Life along the United States-Mexico Border that delves into what Donald Trump's presidential order to continue building structures to mark the future will mean for the future of both countries. limits of each nation. "In Tijuana, two fences - one old, the other more recent - plunge into the ocean, where the waves corrode the supporting metal," says the newspaper, adding that for more than 700 miles along that border. There are already structures that divide the territory.
The report indicates that the border of these nations stretches 1,900 miles across four North American states: California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas. "Where there is already a fence, the land and grass around it tell the stories of those who try to cross it, of those who patrol it and those who live next to it," he says.
Among the stories highlighted in the report is that of José Pablo Sánchez Carillo, an 18-year-old who lives directly next to a section of the wall in Nogales. "Throughout each year of my life, this wall has grown," said Carillo. "I don't know, it seems like the distance between us just keeps growing."
The young man also raised a couple of questions about President Trump's insistence that Mexico pay for future construction that would continue the wall: “This guy is supposed to be a billionaire, right? Why the hell can't he pay for it himself, then? He is the one who wants it.”
