A couple residing in Aztec, New Mexico, faces charges for the alleged torture and abuse to which they subjected their 15 children. The couple was so sadistic that they even executed one of their dogs and forced their youngest children to see puppies boiled alive, their own children revealed.

The horror story was uncovered Monday when Martha Crouch, 53, and her husband Timothy, 57, were arrested at their residence on Cedar Hill, in San Juan County, Sheriff Jayme Harcrow confirmed.

According to police, the arrest came after one of the Crouches' sons was arrested in an incident involving an assault with a firearm. Detectives began investigating the case and the alleged allegations that two brothers had beaten each other to death and that they had kidnapped one of their sisters.

After questioning some of the couple's 8 sons and 7 daughters - some of them adults and living far from their parents - the police were able to discover that the family had been routinely subjected to beatings, harassment, torture and lack of food.

"She grabbed the puppies and put them in a giant pot and boiled them, forcing the children to see her," one of Martha Crouch's daughters told police, according to The Farmington Daily Times.

Another said that she had been hit with a kitchen appliance. One more revealed that when one of the children did not go to school, their parents punished them and left them without food. And that when social workers came to their home, they warned the children to hide. Food was scarce in the home.

For now, the woman faces felony charges in the third degree for abuse of a minor, assault in the fourth degree for extreme cruelty against animals and a minor charge for obstruction of an investigation of abuse and neglect of a minor, according to court documents in San Juan.

For her part, her husband faces a minor charge for obstructing an investigation of abuse and neglect of a minor. Both subjects are being held in a county detention center without bond, while the case is under investigation.
